Through the 2007 season, there have been 1173 rostered players and coaches to don a Goldpanners uniform. Hundreds have continued their careers into professional baseball, with 188 players having appeared in the major leagues, the latest callup being Brendan Ryan (02). In addition, there have been dozens of Goldpanners to coach at the highest level of baseball. The all-time team roster also includes many great coaches and field managers, including Terry Francona, manager of the 2007 champion Boston Red Sox, and Major League Hall of Famers Tom Seaver and Dave Winfield. |

When it comes to success, individual contributions of position players are very important, but it is the organization and coaching staff that makes the most out of the available talent. The Alaska Goldpanners can boast an organization and board of directors among the most stable in all of professional sports, and have always taken the field with the nation's top field managers. In 2002, Goldpanners Field Manager Ed Cheff enjoyed what must be the most successful season ever for a collegiate coach. He was named the Coach of the Year in the NAIA Conference, the Alaska Baseball League, and the NBC Tournament. In addition, Coach Cheff won two national championships (NAIA, NBC) that year. In 2008, the Goldpanners will be enjoying the return of 2007 field manager -- and 1978 Goldpanner infielder -- Tim Gloyd. In 2007, Gloyd succeeded Cheff (of Lewis-Clark State College) and led that club to a third place finish in the ABL. Gloyd will again bring Yuba assistant coach Clarence Griego to serve as assistant in Fairbanks while Panner pitching coach Gus Knickrehm will return for his fourth season with the club. |
