7/5/7:
Replacing ping! with crack! for Alaskan summer "Basch,
a former Goldpanner who stayed in Alaska, said he enjoys the travel. I
think its great that the kids get to see different parts of Alaska and
stay in some unique places. In Fairbanks, the (visiting) team stays in a
trailer park inside the stadium and in Kenai the visiting teams stay in
the local bingo hall, he said. Also, I enjoy seeing players first
impressions of Alaska when they arrive for the first time, because it
reminds me of what a unique place it is that we live.

6/24/5: The boys of summer solstice - David Hoeckstra, Chicago Sun Times "The Goldpanners beat Omaha 3-1 in the 100th Anniversary game. Fairbanks native Sean Timmons was the winning pitcher. He is now the winningest pitcher (3-0) in the history of the Midnight Sun game. Immediately after the game, his No. 33 jersey was shipped to the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y. " 6/23/5: 100 Years of Baseball Fun in Fairbanks - "You can almost feel this day approaching," Basch said. "These people wait the whole winter for the solstice and this game." 6/23/5: Thousands Attend Midnight Sun Game - Newsday -
6/22/5: Where baseball shines the most - ESPN.com "Fairbanks is an insane town."
"I got off the plane to join the Goldpanners in 2001 and said, 'Where
the [expletive] am I?" former Goldpanner pitcher Zak Basch recalled.
"Then we won the National Baseball Congress championship in 2002. And I
got drafted when I never should have. And I had a minor league career I
never should have. And I tell you, winning the NBC World Series for the
Goldpanners trumps anything I did in my pro career. I'd give up my
entire pro career to get back one second of playing here, that one
second throwing the last pitch to win the NBC series." 6/22/5: Fans flock to annual classic - To accommodate the massive crowds, park officials corralled fans in the deep corners of the outfield. Fairbanksan Kerry Turnbow, who was among the standing-room-only throng, was in awe of the sheer numbers in attendance, but not surprised. "I mean it is the 100th anniversary," he said
