COLLEGE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME - CLASS OF 2008
The 1974 Goldpanner season ended on Labor Day in Kamloops, B.C., Canada, as the team needed three wins to climb out of the loser's bracket to win the International Tournament. Floyd Bannister won all three games that day and was named the most valuable player of the tourney to cap a brilliant season.

In his first Goldpanner season Floyd was 11-3 and had a nifty 2.84 ERA. He also led the club in strikeouts with 98 in 95 innings. This spring at Arizona State University Floyd became the nation's strikeout leader and took a 14-3 record with 175 strikeouts in 125 innings into the College World Series. The 6-01 left-hander enjoyed a sensational high school career at Kennedy in Seattle where he went 15-0 and did not allow an earned run in 112 innings as a senior. Floyd also played on two championship Senior Babe Ruth League teams, Stoen-Kassuba of Seattle, which won the national tournament one year and finished third his other season. In the latter season Floyd was named the most valuable player in the national tournament.
3/8/8: Eddie Bane (82), Floyd Bannister (74-75) Bane and Bannister Inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame "Eddie Bane and Floyd Bannister, two of the greatest pitchers to ever wear a Sun Devil uniform, have been named to the 2008 induction class for the College Baseball Hall of Fame, the College Baseball Foundation announced today. Floyd Bannister wore the Maroon and Gold from 1974 to 1976, going 38-6 with a 1.88 ERA. His 29 career complete games are second most in school history, as are his 478 strikeouts. Bannister holds the ASU single season record for single season ERA (1.45 in 1976), single season strikeouts (217 in 1975), single season shutouts (four in 1976), single season complete games (17 in 1976) and is tied with Kendall Carter for the single season wins mark (19 in 1976). He was twice named a First Team All-American and was a member of College World Series teams in 1975 and 1976. Bannister was the first overall pick in the 1976 Major League Baseball draft, going to the Houston Astros. He played 15 seasons in the big leagues, including making the All-Star team in 1982. His #19 was retired by Arizona State University on January 18, 1997. "
Where Are They Now? Floyd Bannister, pitcher "The ex-big leaguer is busier than he ever imagined, managing different investments and training players of all levels. He has an indoor mound, Astroturf and weights in a commercial building he owns in north Phoenix. In the same facility, he runs a photography studio as a business for his oldest son, personally building sets for everyone from ESPN to high-profile New York shooters. Hes remodeling a house in the area for that same son, doing the electrical wiring and plumbing."
